One of the most fundamental keys to a higher level of perception is the ancient practice of meditation. The western world has become aware of this valuable technique relatively recent past. We have become accustomed to finding it incorporated in various systems of yoga. It is used a disciplinary technique as well as relaxation. As a matter of fact, the large majority of stress alleviation clinics in the country utilize meditation as their principle means to alleviate stress.
When one begins to develop the higher aspects of their consciousness, mediation becomes the one tool which is completely indispensable. By quieting yourself to the greatest degree possible, all of the energy used to run and control your physical body is focused inward. The result of this process is a raising of your sensitivity of your consciousness. There is no one right way to meditate. There is a large amount methods which have their origin in various philosophical systems. You have to find the one that fits you.
In my many years of encountering novice meditators, there seems to be a few re-occuring stumbling blocks. the number one problem is not being able to find the time. The solution is to realize that if it is really important to you will make time. The second problem is one doubting progress is being made. The answer is equally simple, but it takes more time to develop. Each meditation lets you submerge a little deeper into the stillness of your mind. If you keep at it you will eventually your goal. for this reason the only correct way to achieve this end is to meditate every day.
A number of years ago, I was told and anecdote which has proven to be very true. A seeker travels to the high Himalayas of India to find a world renowned master. He approaches the great teacher and asks his burning question. "Master what is the secret and meaning of life?" The great master looks at him. "go over and sit on the floor facing the corner of the room. Close your eyes and start counting your breaths." What he was saying was that you can't be told the answer, you have to experience it. Meditation is the first step in finding the answer to that ancient question.
